Super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging—fundamental estimation theory perspective

We provide a quantitative analysis of super-resolution imaging techniques which exploit temporal fluctuations luminosity the sources in order to beat Rayleigh limit. define an operationally justified resolution gain figure merit, that allows us connect estimation theory concepts with ones typically used community, and derive fundamental limits scale at most as fourth-root mean sources. fine-tune benchmark performance state-of-the-art methods, focusing on cumulant-based image processing (known under common acronym SOFI), taking into account impact limited photon number sampling time.
