Suitability of three different legumes for Acanthoscelides obtectus development and population growth

Legumes are a rich source of valuable nutrients thus represent important component in human and animal nutrition. The most often limiting factor legume production is the presence seed pests, such as bean weevil Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say, 1831). This work tested suitability three different species (common bean, faba grass pea), with growing interest diet, for development weevil, aiming to provide reliable forecast its population growth. After four months, been weevils consumed highest percentage common kernels (70.79%), followed by pea (53.13%), (0.42%). progeny growth were significantly affected species. each month, total number adults was on indicating best weevil’s development. Based emerged specimens after month observation, unhampered continuous also pea. lowest adults, all observation periods, low preference pea, it fitted quadratic equation model that enabled prediction next generations.
