Suitability Assessment and Carbon Mitigation Potential of Plantations on India’s Railway Land

چکیده
India has one of the largest railway networks in world, it is proposed that some its lands could be utilized for tree plantation and carbon sequestration activities. In this study, we make an effort to estimate potential land available carrying out activities on Indian railways further mitigation from these Two options are considered activities, (a) Plantations along Railway Tracks (along route length) (b) around sidings. The tracks derived by systematically eliminating parcels non-suitable using high-resolution satellite data. We eliminated either already forested or having cover. Uncultivable wastelands (open barren lands) lines passing through water bodies, bridges, station platforms, crossings, etc. also eliminated. Our analysis suggests a maximum total area about 56.5 thousand hectares may other actions used CO2 fix model simulating plot level dynamics, simulated 35 years 2015 2050. been tested validated different forest ecosystems across world multiple studies. Plot-level simulations carried each Agro-Ecological Zones (AEZs) as AEZs represent homogenous climatic, ecological, edaphic units. Plot estimates pools extrapolated Agro-ecological Zones. This study finds provide modest (of 5–25 MtCO2 over 2015–2050, depending combinations plantations growth rates), compared landuse change sector such restoration reclamation via plantations.

Quantifying the effectiveness of climate change mitigation through forest plantations and carbon sequestration with an integrated land-use model
BACKGROUND Carbon plantations are introduced in climate change policy as an option to slow the build-up of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations. Here we present a methodology to evaluate the potential effectiveness of carbon plantations. The methodology explicitly considers future long-term land-use change around the world and all relevant carbon (C) fluxes, including all natural flu...
متن کاملVulnerability Assessment and Mitigation for the Chinese Railway
The economy of China and the travel needs of its citizens depend significantly on the continuous and reliable services provided by its railway system. However, this system is subject to frequent natural hazards, such as floods, earthquakes, and debris flow. A mechanism to assess the railway system vulnerability under these hazards and the design of effective vulnerability mitigation strategies ...
متن کاملGIS Based Multi-Criteria Analysis for Assessment of Groundwater Potential and Land Suitability
The practical application of sustainable development concepts in groundwater resource management will be complex. The past studies indicate long-term aim of integration to develop the spatial decision support system (SDSS), which is devoted to help decision makers in spatial problems. The essence of this paper is to present a strategy of the groundwater potential with integrating geographical i...
متن کاملTaking account of uncertainties in digital land suitability assessment
Simulations are used to generate plausible realisations of soil and climatic variables for input into an enterprise land suitability assessment (LSA). Subsequently we present a case study demonstrating a LSA (for hazelnuts) which takes into account the quantified uncertainties of the biophysical model input variables. This study is carried out in the Meander Valley Irrigation District, Tasmania...
