Sucupira-branca (Pterodon - Fabaceae): does wood anatomy support the distinction among species and hybrid?

Pterodon (Fabaceae) species known as “sucupira-branca” are traditionally used in Brazilian medicine. This South American monophyletic genus has delimitation problems. To separate the recognized we described wood anatomy of P. abruptus, emarginatus, pubescens, hybrid (between emarginatus and pubescens) apparicioi, latter two for first time. Wood anatomical studies were undertaken, qualitative quantitative features statistically tested. Qualitatively very similar, but most features, differences observed, especially axial parenchyma quantity type. abruptus was easily separated by high density narrow vessels allied to a low area with confluent almost forming bands. Hybrid more similar had significantly greater than other species. PCA analysis separates only abruptus. Cluster using data able apparicioi from Vessels, ray enable clarify distinction identification key.
