Charcoal hemoperfusion for phenytoin intoxication.
Accidental ingestion of phenytoin can lead to severe neurological sequelae. Charcoal hemoperfusion decreases phenytoin levels but has never been reported before in children. We present a child with accidental ingestion of phenytoin who responded to charcoal hemoperfusion.
متن کاملA Case Report of Successful Treatment of Aluminum Phosphide Poisoning
Introduction: Aluminum phosphide is one of the most common causes of poisoning in the country. It liberates lethal phosphine gas when it comes in contact either with atmospheric moisture or with hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It mainly attacks the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Eating even small amounts of this toxin can lead to death. This study reports a case of successful treatme...
متن کاملSuccessful Treatment of Aluminium Phosphide Poisoning: A Case Report
Aluminium phosphide (AlP) is used to kill rodents in grain storage. It produces phosphine gas which is toxic for mitochondria. The exact mechanism of action is unclear, but phosphine is thought to produce toxicity by blocking cytochrome-c oxidase, which inhibits oxidative phosphorylation and result in cell death. This poisoning has a high mortality, and survival is unlikely if more than 1.5 g i...

متن کاملSuccessful Treatment of Refractory Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura with Rituximab, a Monoclonal Antibody: a Case Report
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is mostly attributed to the presence of an autoantibody against ADAMTS-13, a metalloprotease that degrades ultralarge von Willebrand protein multimers. Accumulation of vWF multimers and systemic platelet aggregation lead to microangiopathic thrombosis, hemolytic anemia, and end-organ ischemia. Most patients respond to therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), ...
