Suaeda glauca and Suaeda salsa Employ Different Adaptive Strategies to Cope with Saline–Alkali Environments

نویسندگان

چکیده

(1) Background: soil salinization has become a global problem that restricts agricultural production; thus, there is need to explore the special survival strategies of halophytes in saline–alkali environments. (2) Methods: this study conducted comparative analysis differences metabolites and mineral elements between two indicator plants (Suaeda glauca Suaeda salsa) area. (3) Results: S. salsa leaves accumulated more total nitrogen (TN), organic carbon (TOC), calcium (Ca), sodium (Na) manganese (Mn). The Na/K showed was tolerant environments than glauca. Metabolite revealed significant increase added sugars compared with accumulation most acids associated TCA cycle, which suggests an enhancement flow from glycolysis cycle. In addition, content phenolic substances, such as phenylpropane compounds flavonols, also changed environments, may have promoted metabolism acids. (4) Conclusions: during process plant adaptation salinity, central metabolism, while acid metabolism.

Gene expression responses in Suaeda salsa after cadmium exposure

Coastal line is now polluted by many kinds of sewage including heavy metals discharged by intensive human activities. Cadmium is a nonessential heavy metal for organisms and can cause many kinds of adverse effect on the organisms. Suaeda salsa, a pioneer halophyte in intertidal zone of the Bohai coast, was proved to have cadmium-tolerant capacity. Given that, S. salsa was suggested as a potenti...

Does salt stress affect the interspecific interaction between regionally dominant Suaeda salsa and Scirpus planiculumis?

Plant-plant interactions that change along environmental gradients can be affected by different combinations of environmental characteristics, such as the species and planting density ratios. Suaeda salsa and Scirpus planiculumis are regionally dominant species in the Shuangtai estuarine wetland. Compared with non-clonal S. salsa, clonal S. planiculumis has competitive advantages because of its...

Overexpression of Glycerol-3-Phosphate Acyltransferase from Suaeda salsa Improves Salt Tolerance in Arabidopsis

Glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase is the first acyl esterifying enzyme in phosphatidylglycerol (PG) synthesis process. In this study, we isolated and characterized the glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase (GPAT) gene from Suaeda salsa (S. salsa) and obtained the full length of the GPAT gene from S. salsa (SsGPAT) by 5' and 3' RACE. The clone contained an open reading frame (ORF) of 1167 bp n...

Nitrogen cycle of a typical Suaeda salsa marsh ecosystem in the Yellow River estuary.

The nitrogen (N) biological cycle of the Suaeda salsa marsh ecosystem in the Yellow River estuary was studied during 2008 to 2009. Results showed that soil N had significant seasonal fluctuations and vertical distribution. The N/P ratio (15.73 +/- 1.77) of S. salsa was less than 16, indicating that plant growth was limited by both N and P. The N absorption coefficient of S. salsa was very low (...

Responses of Atriplex spongiosa and Suaeda monoica to Salinity.

The growth and tissue water, K(+), Na(+), Cl(-), proline and glycinebetaine contents of the shoots and roots of two Chenopodiaceae, Atriplex spongiosa and Suaeda monoica have been measured over a range of external NaCl salinities. Both species showed some fresh weight response to low salinity mainly due to increased succulence. S. monoica showed both a greater increase in succulence (at low sal...
