Study on Vector Dynamics of Zika Virus Outbreak in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India

The first laboratory confirmed case in Kerala was reported Thiruvananthapuram, on 8th July 2021. Since then, 83 ZIKV positive cases have been from Kerala, with majority of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation (TMC) area. Entomological surveillance carried out 19 wards TMC including 9 micro containment wards. Three species Aedes (Stegomyia) mosquitoes-Ae.aegypti, Ae.albopictus and Ae.vittatus could be collected the survey areas among this, predominant species. larval indices such as House index, Container index Breteau were found above critical level all surveyed areas. Analysis immature output different container types indicated flooded cement floors/water stagnated newly constructing sites had highest productivity (43.08) followed by discarded tires (15.68) plastic containers (11.62). container/breeding site efficiency noted same floors (4.0) grinding stones/cement tanks/cement pits (2.97) (1.92). detected Ae.aegypti, mosquitoes. detection present study is report India. Transovarial transmission this outbreak investigation. state capital causes a serious public health concern over state. right approach will certainly rely intensive source reduction activities implementation both traditional newer vector control interventions active participation community.
