Study on soil freezing characteristic curve during a freezing-thawing process

Soil freezing characteristic curve (SFCC) defines the relationship between unfrozen water content and subzero temperature. The SFCC is widely applied to estimate soil properties. current study explored effects of initial content, dry density, type desalination on during a freezing-thawing process. It showed that had great impacts SFCC, while density an insignificant effect SFCC. Hysteresis behavior was observed for all samples. hysteresis obvious in temperature range -5°C < T 0, but not ? -10 °C. A new equation containing freezing/thawing point proposed model four models were evaluated with measured data this study. performed best among these models. accurately mimics continuous near 0 can be easily incorporated into numerical algorithms coupled heat mass transfer cold regions.
