Study of morbidity, mortality and survival of low birth weight babies born in a tertiary care hospital Vadodara Gujarat

Introduction: The birth weight of an infant is strongly conditioned by health and nutritional status mother important determinant survival, healthy growth development the newborn. Low Birth Weight has been defined World Health Organization as at less than 2500 grams. Materials Methods: 252 babies having between 2.0 Kg to 2.5 born during August 2012 January 2013 in Jamnabai Hospital Vadodara city were included this prospective study six month for assessing Survival rate morbidity among them. Results: All 249 (3 drop out), who followed up 6 months survived. Prevalence (sick babies) varied from 17.27 % 41.2 %, (Morbidity) 18.07 42.4%. Common morbidities fever, cough, cold, diarrhea, vomiting, rash. Babies fully immunized had lesser compared not immunized. Conclusion: which was carried out on small sample specific group Urban area value that it reflects situation middle lower class families.
