Study of Genetic Variability for Yield and Quality Parameters in Newly Developed Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) Interspecific Derivatives Over Two Seasons

The present investigation was conducted to study genetic parameters for sixteen characters viz., days 50% flowering, maturity, plant height, head diameter, leaf length, width, number of leaves per plant, 100 seed weight, volume yield/plant, stem girth, area index, chlorophyll content and oil at ICAR-Indian Institute Oilseeds Research during kharif-2022 rabi-2022-23, respectively. included a total 50 advanced (BC2F6) interspecific derivatives derived using five diploid annual compatible Helianthus species along with three checks (ARM-243B, DRSF-108 DRSF-113). Analysis variance revealed significant differences all the traits. High variation observed height yield/plant lowest diameter. difference between GCV PCV low indicating less influence environmental factors on expression these heritability coupled high advance in percent mean leaves/plant, index additive gene action Simple phenotypic selection may be effective improving characters. maturity suggesting involvement non-additive traits little scope further improvement through individual selection. results showed that experimental material used had substantial quantity variability crop development programs future.
