Study of Electrical and Optical Peaking of Si Ring Modulators for Tailoring Modulation Band

An operation scheme using electrical peaking and optical to engineer the modulation band of a Si microring modulator is presented. By incorporating an inductor design at metal traces modulator, driving signal can be magnified near frequency. Although adjusting wavelength detuning ring also introduces extend 3-dB roll-off frequency, inductive has no detrimental effect on low-frequency response. exploiting both effects, tailored with more degrees freedom. We accomplish wide flat transmission over 95 GHz, which potentially applied for non-return-to-zero (NRZ) data 120 Gbit/s without extra post-compensation.
