چکیده
An experiment was conducted to estimate the lethal concentration of polyploidy inducing chemical Colchicine in two genotypes Bajra Napier hybrid CO 6 and TNCN 1534. Single nodded setts 1534 were treated with colchicine using different methods viz., whole immersion concentrations 0.05%, 0.10%, 0.15%, 0.20% 0.25% for 3 hours cotton swab method same five concentrations. The LC50 values observed based on growth reduction seedlings after planting by methods. sprouting percentage survival both gradually reduced increasing doses it also differed used. had value 0.21% genotype 0.19% 0.14% case 0.15% found be optimum indicating differential response treatment. Correlation between stomatal parameters indicated positive correlation when varieties duration a negative they hour method. As exposure increased, showed decreased growth. In method, width while length seen having increased. Keywords: Pennisetum, colchicine, sprouting, survivability, Probit analysis,

Assessment of genetic diversity in accessions of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) and napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum) using microsatellite (ISSR) markers
Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) and napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach) are the most economically important species in the genus Pennisetum. Knowledge of genetic diversity of these two species would enhance their potentials for utilization. The present work assessed the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationship among Nigerian and Indian accessions of pearl millet an...

The genus Pennisetum (Richard, 1805) includes two economically important tropical forage plants: Pennisetum purpureum (Schumacher, 1827) (elephant grass), with 2n = 4x = 28 chromosomes and genomes A'A'BB, and Pennisetum glaucum (Linnaeus, 1753) (pearl millet), with 2n = 2x = 14 chromosomes and genomes AA. The genetic proximity between them allows hybrids to be obtained (2n = 3x = 21) that yield...

Interspecific hybridization between Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum), which is widely grown in Brazil for cattle forage, and pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) has been used as a breeding strategy for the development of improved cultivars. However, the hybrid between these two species is sterile due to its triploid condition (2n = 3x = 21 chromosomes), which hinders its use in crop breeding p...
متن کاملOpportunities for Napier Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) Improvement Using Molecular Genetics
Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach.) is a fast-growing perennial grass native to Sub-Saharan Africa that is widely grown across the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It is a multipurpose forage crop, primarily used to feed cattle in cut and carry feeding systems. Characterization and diversity studies on a small collection of Napier grasses have identified a moderate level...
متن کاملGenetic diversity in Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum) cultivars: implications for breeding and conservation
Napier grass is an important forage crop for dairy production in the tropics; as such, its existing genetic diversity needs to be assessed for conservation. The current study assessed the genetic variation of Napier grass collections from selected regions in Eastern Africa and the International Livestock Research Institute Forage Germplasm-Ethiopia. The diversity of 281 cultivars was investigat...
