Strontium as a tracer for calcium: uptake, transport and partitioning within tomato plants

چکیده

Calcium (Ca2+) is a major structural plant nutrient whose low mobility in the phloem causes deleterious nutritional disorders non-transpiring organs. Since strontium (Sr2+) and Ca2+ share many chemical properties, Sr2+ frequently used as tracer to study cycles ecosystems. However, level of agreement between distribution pattern plants debatable, several studies have reported toxic effects Sr2+. Therefore, we investigated uptake rates determine how reliably can be tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.). We conducted six independent experiments various duration: from few hours weeks, hydroponic perlite substrate. treated with either or at equivalent concentrations monitored their accumulation shoot fruits. Under short-term exposure (hours), within were comparable, while long-term (days weeks) 4 mM reduced transpiration biomass accumulation. The effect was more prominent when growth conditions favourable. Nonetheless, accumulated similarly fruit. Surprisingly, deposition fruit cell walls prevented blossom end rot (BER) same degree Ca2+. credibly allocation short-term, making powerful tool factors governing organs, primarily delivery.

Strontium as a tracer for calcium in biological and clinical research.

The calcium ion is required for the operation of a number of physiological processes, such as bone and tooth formation, blood coagulation, nerve impulse transmission, and muscle contraction. At the cellular-biochemical level, the calcium ion participates in signal transduction and is a significant factor in cell replication and cell division. The ultimate source of this important element is the...

Germanium-68 as an adequate tracer for silicon transport in plants. Characterization of silicon uptake in different crop species.

A basic problem in silicon (Si) uptake studies in biology is the lack of an appropriate radioactive isotope. Radioactive germanium-68 ((68)Ge) has been used previously as a Si tracer in biological materials, but its suitability for the study of Si transport in higher plants is still untested. In this study, we investigated (68)Ge-traced Si uptake by four crop species differing widely in uptake ...

Differential Nutrient Uptake and Its Transport in Tomato Plants on Different Fertilizer Regimens

Application of controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) to a root-proof capillary wick irrigation system (a type of subirrigation method) has both economical and environmental benefits, because it does not require any equipment for fertigation and minimizes water leaching. In this study, we examined the effects of CRF and liquid fertilizer (LF), a conventional fertigation method, on fruit production...

Active Calcium and Strontium Transport in Human Erythrocyte Ghosts

Both calcium and strontium could be transported actively from erythrocytes if adenosine triphosphate, guanosine triphosphate, or inosine triphosphate were included in the hypotonic medium used to infuse calcium or strontium into the cells. Acetyl phosphate and pyrophosphate were not energy sources for the transport of either ion. Neither calcium nor strontium transport was accompanied by magnes...

Biomass Partitioning in Tomato Plants Infected with Meloidogyne incognita.

Tomato plants were inoculated with Meloidogyne incognita at initial populations (Pi) of 0, 1, 10, 50, 100, and 200 (x 1,000) eggs per plant and maintained in a growth chamber for 40 days. Total fresh biomass (roots + shoots) at harvest was unchanged by nematode inoculation with Pi of 1 x 10 eggs or less. Reductions in fresh shoot weight with increasing Pi coincided with increases in root weight...
