Stroboscopic Augmented Reality as an Approach to Mitigate Gravitational Transition Effects During Interplanetary Spaceflight

During interplanetary spaceflight, periods of extreme gravitational transitions will occur such as between hypergravity, hypogravity, and microgravity. Following transitions, rapid sensorimotor adaptation or maladaptation may which can affect gaze control weaken dynamic visual acuity in astronauts. A reduction during spaceflight could possibly impact impair mission critical activities (e.g., extraterrestrial machinery/vehicles other important tasks). Stroboscopic training is an emerging tool that has been terrestrially observed to enhance performance perception by performing tasks under conditions intermittent vision. This technique also seen increase the for individuals terrestrially. To mitigate decreased astronauts following stroboscopic vision serve a potential countermeasure. We describe effects on vestibulo-ocular system acuity, review terrestrial training, report novel development augmented reality possible countermeasure G-transitions future spaceflight.
