Strip spraying delays pyrethroid resistance in the redlegged earth mite, Halotydeus destructor : a novel refuge strategy

چکیده

BACKGROUND Pesticide resistance has seen control options for the redlegged earth mite (RLEM), Halotydeus destructor, dwindle Australian grain farmers. The recent discovery of high recessiveness pyrethroid in RLEM provided an opportunity to examine feasibility a refuge strategy slow evolution resistance. Unlike lepidopterous pests Bt crops, where strategies are routinely practiced, is slow-moving pest, which will impact design susceptible refuges. RESULTS Firstly, we confirmed resistant allele recessive (wildtype) (in terms resistance) across spatially separated populations. Secondly, demonstrated that small, localized population can revert susceptibility at field relevant scales and conditions. Next, used simulation modelling approach practical maintain pyrethroids populations with low incidence Certain configurations (e.g. pesticide strip width 50 m spacing 10 m) maintained levels 10-year time horizon, lower abundance minimal yield loss. A larger proportion did not always delay resistance, and, under certain conditions, increased frequency. CONCLUSION Strip spraying refuges be readily incorporated into management programs sprayer widths commercial cropping contexts typically between 20–40 m. uses may enhance long term absence new chemical registrations but now require validation. © 2021 Society Chemical Industry.

Strategies for control of the redlegged earth mite in Australia

The redlegged earth mite, Halotydeus destructor, continues to be an intractable pest causing damage to most crop and pasture species in southernAustralia.H. destructor feed on all stages of plants, but particularly damage seedlings in autumn. Research has aimed to develop new controls based on a better understanding of the biology and ecology of this pest. Chemicals remain the key tool to contr...

a novel reduction strategy of clarithromycin resistance in helicobacter pylori

background antibiotic resistance is a major therapeutic problem in patients infected with helicobacter pylori. h. pylori clarithromycin resistant mutants have been evolved during antibiotic therapy, this is mainly due to 23s rrna point mutations. objectives in the present study, we investigated anti-mutational features of four traditionally iranian medicinal plants on three local isolated h. py...

The Pyrethroid Knockdown Resistance

New promising insect control efforts are now being evaluated such as biological alternatives or even transgenic insects and Wolbachia based strategies. Although it is increasingly clear that successful approaches must involve integrated actions, chemical insecticides unfortunately still play a central role in pest and vector control (Raghavendra et al., 2011). Development of new safe and effect...

Monitoring for resistance to organophosphorus and pyrethroid insecticides in Varroa mite populations.

The occurrence of resistance in Varroa mite populations is a serious threat to the beekeeping industry and to crops that rely on the honey bee for pollination. Integrated pest management strategies for control of this pest include the judicious use of insecticides. To monitor field populations of Varroa mite for insecticide resistance, a glass vial bioassay procedure was developed to use in the...

Spraying food sources with pyrethroid to control peridomestic triatomines.

INTRODUCTION We attempted to supplement traditional insecticide spraying by treating peridomiciliar food sources with a powder formulation. METHODS Two groups of houses were treated with deltamethrin suspension concentrate (SC), one of which had its primary peridomestic food sources treated with deltamethrin 2P. RESULTS Triatoma brasiliensis was the most commonly captured triatomine. Birds,...
