چکیده
We present a two-dimensional analytical solution for the static stress field around rough interlocked interface under background stresses and its applications to faulting. The is derived using perturbation theory defined topography stresses. failure-ratio, which scales likelihood failure of bulk material interface, calculated adopting Coulomb criterion. compare model predictions with results experiments performed on rock interfaces find good agreement between locations off-fault deformation zones high failure-ratio values. further study effect fault distribution San Andreas Fault moderate correlation Failure-Ratio values seismic events. conclude that our able delineate regions are relatively prone due local effects topography.

heterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings
from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...
Parallel Simulations of Dynamic Earthquake Rupture Along Geometrically Complex Faults on CMP Systems
Chip multiprocessors (CMP) are widely used for high performance computing and are being configured in a hierarchical manner to compose a CMP compute node in a CMP system. Such a CMP system provides a natural programming paradigm for hybrid MPI/OpenMP applications. In this paper, we use OpenMP to parallelize a sequential earthquake simulation code for modeling spontaneous earthquake rupture alon...
متن کاملAdditional shear resistance from fault roughness and stress levels on geometrically complex faults
[1] The majority of crustal faults host earthquakes when the ratio of average background shear stress b to effective normal stress eff is b/ eff 0.6. In contrast, mature plate-boundary faults like the San Andreas Fault (SAF) operate at b/ eff 0.2. Dynamic weakening, the dramatic reduction in frictional resistance at coseismic slip velocities that is commonly observed in laboratory experiments, ...
