Strength Assessment of Cement-Based Materials under Marine Conditions Subjected to Sulfate and Chloride Attack Based on Ion Distributions

Sulfate and chloride in the marine environment threaten lifespan of concrete structures. Predicting strength under different degrees ion erosion is essential for structure design maintenance. In this paper, a novel method was developed to predict compressive evolution due sulfate attack. The degradation diffusion behavior cement-based materials investigated by analyzing visual appearance, strength, porosity, distributions mortar soaked solutions with concentrations. damage degree observed increase concentration decrease concentration. Additionally, it discovered that ions inhibited each other, higher resulted more substantial inhibition effect. total effective intrusions were proposed describe based on evaluation Fick’s second law.
