Stratigraphic architecture of a saline lake system: From lake depocentre (Alès Basin) to margins (Saint‐Chaptes and Issirac basins), Eocene–Oligocene transition, south‐east France

چکیده
Changes in sedimentary profiles and stratigraphic architecture over time lake basins are shown to be relevant markers of climate changes terrestrial palaeoenvironments. The the Priabonian (late Eocene)–early Rupelian (early Oligocene) Alès–Saint-Chaptes–Issirac saline system has been reconstructed from sedimentological, biostratigraphic magnetostratigraphic analysis outcrops well cores. As a function inflow–evaporation balance, three distinct depositional models have proposed for which is characterized by both fault-controlled low-angle ramp-like margins: (i) freshwater oligohaline lake; (ii) mesohaline closed-lake; (iii) hypersaline, evaporitic closed-lake. Two major stages spreading (possibly middle late Priabonian–early Rupelian) separated two significant closure represented evaporite succession Alès Basin depocentre (middle Priabonian) evidenced. Regional tectonics induced balance controlled development transgressive–regressive cycles with calcium-sulphate sedimentation during regression (Alès Basin) early transgression margins (Saint-Chaptes Issirac basins). correlation between palaeohydrological inferred regional stage, prior Eocene–Oligocene transition, strongly suggests that significantly impacted nature lacustrine Palaeogene, syn-rift, Western Europe.

Century-scale paleoclimatic reconstruction from Moon Lake, a closed-basin lake in the northern Great Plains
Estimates of past lake-water salinity from fossil diatom assemblages were used to infer past climatic conditions at Moon Lake, a climatically sensitive site in the northern Great Plains. A good correspondence between diatom-inferred salinity and historical records of mean annual precipitation minus evapotranspiration (P ET) strongly suggests that the sedimentary record from Moon Lake can be use...
متن کاملCharacterization of saline dust emission resulted from Urmia Lake drying
Compared with common dust storms, saline dust storms transport high concentrations of fine-grain saline and alkaline material. The saline dust storm differs from common dust storm, especially considering the sources of the suspended particulate matter (PM), chemical composition, grain size, and circulation processes. Atmospheric particulate matters (TSP, PM10, PM2.5, and PM1) and their water-so...
متن کاملMorphological, Phylogenetic and Physiological Studies of Pico-Cyanobacteria Isolated from the Halocline of a Saline Meromictic Lake, Lake Suigetsu, Japan
Small cyanobacteria (<2 µm, pico-cyanobacteria) are abundant in waters deeper than the oxic-anoxic zone in the halocline of a saline meromictic lake, Lake Suigetsu, Fukui, Japan. We have isolated 101 strains that were grouped into six groups by means of the phycobiliprotein composition and sequence homology of the intergenic spacer between the 16S and 23S rRNA genes. Significant growth was obse...
متن کاملCyanophage diversity, inferred from g20 gene analyses, in the largest natural lake in France, Lake Bourget.
The genetic diversity of the natural freshwater community of cyanophages and its variations over time have been investigated for the first time in the surface waters of the largest natural lake in France. This was done by random screening of clone libraries for the g20 gene and by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). Nucleotide sequence analysis revealed 35 distinct cyanomyovirus g20...
