Strategies for the implementation of an electronic fracture risk assessment tool in long term care: a qualitative study

Abstract Background Older adults in long-term care (LTC) homes experience high rates of fractures, which are detrimental to their quality life. The purpose this study is identify and make recommendations on strategies implementing an evidence-based Fracture Risk Clinical Assessment Protocol (CAP) LTC. Methods Following the Behaviour Change Wheel framework, we conducted six focus group interviews with a total 32 LTC stakeholders (e.g. physicians) barriers facilitators, suggest implementation strategies, discuss whether identified were affordable, practicable, effective, acceptable, safe, if they promote equity (APEASE). transcribed verbatim analyzed using thematic content analysis. Results Themes that met APEASE criteria minimizing any increase workload, training CAP usage, education for residents families, persuasion through stories. Other strategy themes culture change, resident-centred care, physical restructuring, software features, modeling training, staff, social rewards, material public benchmarking, regulations. Conclusions To implement LTC, recommend centred around providing persuading Through improving fracture risk CAP, results from work will improve identification management at could inform guidelines other conditions homes.
