Strain‐Engineered Nano‐Ferroelectrics for High‐Efficiency Piezocatalytic Overall Water Splitting

Abstract Developing nano‐ferroelectric materials with excellent piezoelectric performance for piezocatalysts used in water splitting is highly desired but also challenging, especially respect to reaching large piezo‐potentials that fully align required redox levels. Herein, heteroepitaxial strain BaTiO 3 nanoparticles a designed porous structure successfully induced by engineering their surface reconstruction dramatically enhance piezoelectricity. The coherence can be maintained throughout the nanoparticle bulk, resulting significant increase of tetragonality and thus its Benefiting from high piezoelectricity, as‐synthesized blue‐colored possess superb overall water‐splitting activity, H 2 production rates 159 μmol g −1 h , which almost 130 times higher than pristine nanoparticles. Thus, this work provides generic approach designing efficient nanomaterials further extended various other perovskite oxides, including SrTiO thereby enhancing potential catalysis.
