Stochastorm: A Stochastic Rainfall Simulator for Convective Storms

چکیده

Abstract Stochastic rainfall generators aim to reproduce the main statistical features of at small spatial and temporal scales. The simulated synthetic series are recognized as suitable for use with impact analysis in water, agricultural, ecological management. Convection-driven precipitation, dominant certain regions world such intertropical belt regions, presents properties that require specific consideration when modeling: (i) strong intermittency, (ii) high variability intensities within storms, (iii) spatiotemporal correlation intensities, (iv) marked seasonality storm properties. In this article, improvements an existing stochastic generator fields models convective storms presented. Notable novelties include ability model precipitation event timing, improved disaggregation scheme representing distribution subevent scales, using covariates reflect seasonal changes occurrence marginal parameters. Extreme values explicitly considered intensities. simulator is calibrated validated 28 years 5-min data from 30-rain-gauge AMMA-CATCH network Sahelian region southwest Niger. Both large propagative systems smaller local generated. Results show coherently represent climatology. can generate scenarios studies accurate representation characteristics.

Relationship between surface conditions and subsequent rainfall in convective storms

This paper describes the relationship between surface conditions (temperature and humidity) and subsequent rainfall. The focus is on convective storms that are forced and maintained locally due to conditional instability in the vertical distribution of atmospheric temperature. These storms are described using two probabilistic measures: (1) the probability of occurrence of storms given surface ...

On the statistical relationship between cloud optical and microphysical characteristics and rainfall intensity for convective storms over the Mediterranean

The relationship between the multi-spectral cloud field characterization from the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) and the rainfall intensities from the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-module B (AMSU-B) data were studied for a convective storm event, which occurred during the first 15 days of June 2007 over the Mediterranean. The cloud products exploited in this analysis, cloud...

Predicting rainfall-runoff erosivity for single storms in northern Iraq

Estimation of soil loss from single storm events is essential for basin planning and nonpoint source pollution control. Rainfall-runoff erosivity factors for single storm events in northern Iraq were derived from the basic theory of soil detachment and transport. The factors derived are a single parameter which includes runoff depth only and a factor which combines runoff depth and peak rate. T...
