چکیده

Added Damping and Stiffness (ADAS) steel dissipators are among the most classical devices installed in dissipative bracing systems for advanced seismic retrofit of frame buildings. An energy-based sizing procedure is formulated this study class dampers, where total number constituting plates directly related, without iterative steps, to supplementary damping energy required jointly reduce stress states structural members storey drifts. The stiffening effects braces expressly controlled, so as compensate increase shears induced by their incorporation skeleton. demonstratively applied design a 6-storey reinforced concrete building, explicate discuss use its analytical relations relevant limitations practice. evaluation performance structure retrofitted conditions allows comparing response system with hypotheses at stage.

Energy-Based Design Criterion of Dissipative Bracing Systems for the Seismic Retrofit of Frame Structures

Direct sizing criteria represent useful tools in the design of dissipative bracing systems for the advanced seismic protection of existing frame structures, especially when incorporated dampers feature a markedly non-linear behaviour. An energy-based procedure is proposed herein to this aim, focusing attention on systems including fluid viscous devices. The procedure starts by assuming prefixed...

Application of a Direct Procedure for the Seismic Retrofit of a R/C School Building Equipped with Viscous Dampers

Several design methods aimed at sizing the viscous dampers to be inserted in building structures have been proposed in the last decades. Among others, the authors proposed a five-step procedure that guides the practical design from the choice of a target reduction in the seismic response of the structural system (with respect to the response of a structure without any additional damping devices...

Effect of Fling-Step on Seismic Response of Steel Eccentrically Braced Frame Structures

Fling-step and forward directivity are two important characteristics of near-field earthquakes. Forward directivity occurs when the rupture propagates toward the site and arises in fault‐normal direction for strike‐slip faults. Fling-step is the consequence of permanent ground displacement imposed by near-field earthquakes and arises in strike-slip faults in the strike parallel direction. Fling...

Performance Based Seismic Retrofit of Masonry Infilled Reinforced Concrete Frames Using Passive Energy Dissipation Devices

The paper presents a plastic analysis procedure based on the energy balance concept for performance based seismic retrofit of multi-story multi-bay masonry infilled reinforced concrete (R/C) frames with a ‘soft’ ground story using passive energy dissipation (PED) devices with the objective of achieving a target performance level of the retrofitted R/C frame for a given seismic hazard level at t...
