Abstract In modern drive systems, the high-efficient permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have become one of most substantial components. Nevertheless, such machines are exposed to various types faults. Hence, on-line condition monitoring and fault diagnosis PMSMs necessary. One common PMSM faults is stator winding fault. Due destructive character this failure, it necessary use diagnostic methods that allow detection at its early stage. The article presents results experimental studies obtained from fast Fourier transform (FFT) short-time (STFT) analyses phase current, current envelope space vector module. superiority proposed method over classical approach based on analysis using FFT highlighted. solution experimentally verified under motor operating conditions. application STFT discussed so far in literature has been limited induction narrow range analysed Moreover, there no works field diagnostics dealing with for windings
