Statistical investigation of wind duration using a refined hurricane track model

چکیده
A complete characterization of the atmospheric boundary-layer winds essentially involves speed, direction and duration. While extensive statistical analyses have been carried out to determine wind speed directionality for appropriate design buildings, there is a lack similar research effort Although duration may limited effects on linear, elastic structural response, it can present significant importance in consideration nonlinear, inelastic response due damage accumulation cyclic deterioration strength stiffness. Recent advances performance-based methodology allow controlled deformation buildings under strong winds, hence place demand investigation In this study, data used probabilistic analysis result from refined hurricane track model. Specifically, both environmental flow Coriolis force (the beta effect) are integrated into translation module improved modeling movement. Based numerically generated data, measured with over-threshold method (i.e., uniform duration) obtained. Furthermore, framework developed jointly consider duration, direction. case study conducted demonstrate efficacy proposed quantification climate consideration. Finally, performance simplified single-degree-of freedom system examined highlight incorporating design.

Further Studies of the Optimization of a Hurricane Track Prediction Model Using the Adjoint Equations
The method of model fitting, or adjoint method, is applied to a barotropic hurricane track forecast model described by DeMaria and Jones using a large sample of forecast cases. The sample includes all Atlantic tropical cyclones that reached hurricane intensity during the 1989–93 hurricane seasons (141 72-h forecasts of 17 storms). The cases considered by DeMaria and Jones are a subset of the pr...

Refined statistical model tuning for speech synthesis
This paper describes a number of approaches to refine and tune statistical models for speech synthesis. The first approach is to tune the sizes of the decision trees for central phonemes in a context. The second approach is a refinement technique for HMM models; a variable number of states for hidden semiMarkov models is emulated. A so-called “hard state-skip” training technique is introduced i...
متن کاملAn Adaptive Multigrid Model for Hurricane Track Prediction
SUMMARY This paper describes a simple numerical model for hurricane track prediction which uses a multigrid method to adapt the model resolution as the vortex moves. The model is based on the modiied barotropic vorticity equation, discretized in space by conservative nite diierences and in time by a Runge-Kutta scheme. A multigrid method is used to solve an elliptic problem for the streamfuncti...
