Stabilization of p-GaAs electrode surfaces in organic solvent by bi-phenyl rings for spin dependent electron transfer studies

• p-GaAs photocathodes were functionalised with biphenol-4-thiol monolayers. Functionalisation did not hinder the electron transfer rate in acetonitrile. Energy diagrams obtained to explain and without functionalisation. The electrode was stabilised against surface state mediated processes. Biphenyl-4-thiol (B4t) compared non-functionalised ones presence of methyl viologen cation radical (MV + ) as a redox mediator. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies revealed that at bare interacts strongly surface, displaying unwanted states (SS) (ET) even dark. Functionalising B4t passivated interface this process, while ensuring conduction band (CB) electrons still facilitated faradaic reduction MV 0 unhindered efficiency.
