Stability Study of Erythritol as Phase Change Material for Medium Temperature Thermal Applications

Sugar alcohols belong to a promising category of organic phase change materials (PCM) because their high latent heat and density compared other PCM. However, some sugar have shown degradation when heated above melting temperature. Most the available studies report structural changes erythritol during cycling rather than its thermal stability at constant This study aimed assess effect treatment on thermal, chemical physical properties, as well find means enhance stability. Erythritol mixtures with antioxidant were maintained different temperatures point. was analyzed before after via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy differential scanning calorimetry. It suggested that follows first order reaction. Mixtures had lower rate pure under air. Sample browning observed along heating mainly erythritol. Antioxidant found help reduce degradation. No composition detected in samples argon atmosphere overall good throughout testing period.
