Stability analysis of water-lubricated journal bearings for fuel cell vehicle air compressor
This paper presents a stability investigation of the step recessed, hydro-static and -dynamic hybrid water-lubricated journal bearings for fuel cell vehicle compressor. The dynamic coefficients and stability threshold speed of the bearings are numerically calculated by solving the turbulent Reynolds equation by using FEM. Two configuration bearings are comparatively studied and the different dy...
متن کاملHydrodynamically Lubricated and Grooved Biomimetic Self-Adapting Surfaces
In many machines and mechanical components, there is a need for new bearing technologies to reduce friction and wear, and provide precision control of motion when the load is varied. This can be provided by electronically controlled actuators and sensors on the surfaces, but then the system reliability can be an issue. In contrast, biomimetic surfaces can be created that adapt mechanically to v...
متن کاملDynamic Response of Self-Acting Foil Bearings
A new approach to the analysis of wide foil bearings is investigated. The equation of motion for a finite length of tape is coupled to the transient lubrication equation for the air film between the tape and the recording head. Compressibility and slip flow are retained in the fluid mechanics equation; flexural rigidity and high-speed dynamic effects are retained in the tape equation. The stead...

متن کاملOn the Existence of Solutions of Equilibria in Lubricated Journal Bearings
In this paper we study a system of equations concerning equilibrium positions of journal bearings. The problem consists of two surfaces in relative motion separated by a small distance filled with a lubricant. The shape of the inlet surface is circular, while the other surface has a more general shape. Our result shows the existence of at least one equilibrium by using degree theory.
