Stability improvement of laccase for micropollutant removal of pharmaceutical origins from municipal wastewater

Abstract Micropollutants are persistent and hazardous materials in low concentrations (ng L −1 –μg ), including substances such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products industrial chemicals. The advancement of analytical chemistry has allowed for the detection micropollutants; however, an efficient economical treatment solution is yet to be installed. Fungal laccase been a successful biocatalyst these compounds. However, large-scale application free enzyme currently not feasible removing water-borne micropollutants, partly due relatively rapid loss stability. In this paper, three types cyclodextrin, α, β γCD, were chosen immobilise under various conditions with aim improve stability enzyme. Laccase activity was response parameter, laccase-cyclodextrin binding evaluated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Results showed optimum using α-cyclodextrin immobilisation. At that level, increased half-life slightly improved its all tested pH physically bonding laccase. By protecting structure, maintained range circumstances (acidic conditions, from 10 50 °C).
