چکیده
Splenomegaly is one of the common complications malaria most commonly associated with Plasmodium Vivax. Due to inadequate treatment, spleen can harbor parasite, which causes recurrent infection leading splenomegaly and splenic rupture. Spleen more prone rupture in acute phase infection. The exact mechanism still unknown but trauma, pressure abdominal muscles on due sneezing coughing plays important rule. In recent years, the association between infections and antiphospholipid syndrome has been reported in several epidemiologic and experimental studies that support the idea of infectious induction of aPL [2]. Witmer, et al. [3] reported two children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pulmonary infection complicated by the development of splenic infarction and transient antiphospholipid antibodies. Among...
متن کاملSpontaneous Splenic Rupture in a Vivax Malaria Case Treated with Transcatheter Coil Embolization of the Splenic Artery
An enlarged spleen is considered one of the most common signs of malaria, and splenic rupture rarely occurs as an important life-threatening complication. Splenectomy has been recommended as the treatment of choice for hemodynamically unstable patients. However, a very limited number of splenic rupture patients have been treated with transcatheter coil embolization. Here we report a 38-year-old...

We report two cases of Plasmodium vivax malaria (both aged 12 years) complicated by seizures and symptoms of diffuse meningoencephalitis. One had predominantly meningeal signs while in the other, purely encephalitis features were present. Both cases were treated with artesunate. Rarely, cerebral malaria is a presenting complication or occurs during the course of P. vivax infection.
