Spiral waves within a bistability parameter region of an excitable medium

چکیده
Abstract Spiral waves are a well-known and intensively studied dynamic phenomenon in excitable media of various types. Most studies have considered an medium with single stable resting state. However, spiral can be maintained bistability. Our calculations, performed using the widely used Barkley model, clearly show that bistability region exhibit unique properties. For example, wave either rotate around core is unexcited state, or tip describes circular trajectory located inside excited region. The boundaries parameter regions positive ‘negative’ cores been defined numerically analytically evaluated. It also shown creation may depend on initial conditions, which leads to hysteresis waves. In addition, influence gradient flow dynamics wave, related tension scroll filaments three-dimensional medium, studied.

Reflected Waves in an Inhomogeneous Excitable Medium
Propagation can be encumbered in an excitable cable in which intrinsic properties change abruptly. A sudden increase in diameter or a decrease in conductivity or excitability can lead to propagation block or delay in propagation with or without reflection. We study such transient phenomena from a geometric point of view. A simple two-cell caricature, with one cell enlarged to mimic diameter inc...
متن کاملOscillatory Waves in an Inhomogeneous Excitable Medium
An excitable medium is a nonlinear dissipative dynamical system able to sustain undamped wave propagation. Examples of excitable media include cardiac tissue and neural media. This thesis investigates a class of novel dynamical phenomena in excitable media, known collectively as oscillatory waves. The examples of oscillatory waves considered here are Tango waves, breathers and pulse generators....
متن کاملControlling the breakup of spiral waves in an excitable medium by applying time-delay feedback signals
– The spiral-wave breakup to turbulence in an excitable medium, starting from the spiral-wave center via Doppler instability, is controlled by modulating a local region around the spiral-wave center. The modulation signal is extracted from the controlled region with a certain time delay. By injecting a feedback signal with very low intensity into a very small space area, we can successfully sta...
متن کاملScroll waves meandering in a model of an excitable medium.
We study numerically the dynamics of a scroll wave in a three-dimensional (3D) excitable medium in the presence of substantial meandering of the corresponding 2D spiral wave in the Aliev-Panfilov model. We identify three types of dynamics of the scroll wave filament--quasi-2D, periodic, and aperiodic meandering--and we study their dependence on parameter settings and thickness of the medium.
متن کاملPeriodic forcing of spiral waves in excitable media.
An analysis of periodically forced spiral waves in excitable media provides a simple explanation of the resonant drift dynamics and frequency entrainments observed both in laboratory experiments and in simulations of partial-differential equations. Forcing of both rigidly rotating and meandering spirals is considered. In the meandering case we predict the existence of different resonant drift s...
