Abstract We investigate the effects of early-life medical treatments on treated children and their families. use a regression discontinuity design that exploits changes in across very low birth weight (VLBW) cutoff. Using administrative data from Denmark, we establish VLBW have better health higher test scores. find these benefits spill over to other family members: mothers enjoy mental health, siblings Maternal improvements seem be driven by focal child sibling spillovers improved interactions within parental compensating behavior.
