چکیده

According to a recent global literature survey, total of 39 out the 129 known spider families (∼30%) contain species capable capturing vertebrate prey. The finding that percentage engaged in predation is so high novel. Two groups vertebrate-eating spiders are distinguished: “habitual vertebrate-eaters” vs. “occasional vertebrate-eaters”. habitual vertebrate-eaters comprise ten (Araneidae, Atracidae, Ctenidae, Lycosidae, Nephilidae, Pisauridae, Theraphosidae, Theridiidae, Trechaleidae, and Sparassidae) which can be attributed 91% all reported incidents. have evolved prey-capture adaptations such as (1) sufficient physical strength coupled with large body size, (2) use potent venoms, (3) highly efficient prey-catching webs. By contrast, unexpected feeding on vertebrates by occasional (i.e., Actinopodidae, Agelenidae, Amaurobiidae, Anyphaenidae, Barychelidae, Clubionidae, Corinnidae, Ctenizidae, Cyrtaucheniidae, Deinopidae, Desidae, Dipluridae, Eresidae, Filistatidae, Gnaphosidae, Haplonoproctidae, Linyphiidae, Liocranidae, Miturgidae, Oxyopidae, Pholcidae, Porrhothelidae, Salticidae, Selenopidae, Sicariidae, Sparassidae, Tetragnathidae, Thomisidae) might considered chance events took place when tiny crossed path an opportunistic spider. For few (e.g., Idiopidae) their status or predators still unclear. In conclusion, our survey unveiled number taxa previously not anticipated feed These findings improve general understanding ecology provide first assessment significance prey food source for spiders.

Histoplasma capsulatum: More Widespread than Previously Thought

Histoplasmosis is an endemic mycosis caused by a dimorphic fungus with two distinct varieties pathogenic for humans: Histoplasma capsulatum var. capsulatum and H. capsulatum var. duboisii. The latter is known to be restricted to sub-Saharan Africa, whereas the former is distributed worldwide. However, general textbooks of medical mycology when considering the geographic distribution of H. capsu...

Mycobacterium microti: more widespread than previously thought.

Mycobacterium microti typically causes disease in voles, wood mice, and shrews (6). Only rarely has this bacterium been isolated from other animals, among which are a llama, cats, pigs, a rock hyrax, and a ferret (2, 4, 5). Recently, M. microti isolates from different sources were characterized by using novel genetic markers (5), and this study for the first time disclosed four cases of M. micr...

Mycobacterium microti: More diverse than previously thought.

Mycobacterium microti is a member of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex of bacteria. This species was originally identified as a pathogen of small rodents and shrews and was associated with limited diversity and a much reduced spoligotype pattern. More recently, specific deletions of chromosomal DNA have been shown to define this group of organisms, which can be identified by the absence of...

Sleep – More Local and Complex than Previously Thought?

pocampal sharp wave ripples (hSWR) a replay of the memory trace occurs, which is then “transferred” into the cortex via sleep spindles and perhaps slow oscillations. At this point it is important to note that for one most evidence regarding this theory is of correlative nature and therefore cannot conclude causality. Up until now only two studies in rodents could show more than correlational ev...

Immunodeficiency - “ Much More Common Than We Thought ”

10 years with the development of new genetic techniques more than 100 mutations in various genes were found to be associated with primary immunodeficiencies entities. It should be noted that in some diseases several hundreds of patients were found, while in others only few children were discovered, thus applying that we are dealing with rare situations. Using the same genetic techniques a new c...
