Equivalence Relations and Classical Banach Spaces

We give a survey of results on Borel reducibility among equivalence relations induced by classical Banach spaces. We present an application of this study to a classification problem related to the big O notation. Finally we study a question of Kanovei and provide some information on the complexity of the equivalence relations involved.

Equivalence of Families of Diffeomorphisms on Banach Spaces

We consider two families of C∞-diffeomorphisms (with hyperbolic linear part at 0) on a Banach space. Suppose that these two families formally conjugate at 0. We prove that they admit local conjugation, which is infinitely smooth in both, the space variable and the family parameter. In particular, subject to non-resonance condition, there exists a family of local C∞ linearizations of the family ...

Eigenvalues, Expanders and Superconcentrators

Explicit construction of families of linear expanders and superconcentrators is relevant to theoretical computer science in several ways. There is essentially only one known explicit construction. Here we show a correspondence between the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of a graph and its expansion properties, and combine it with results on Group Representations to obtain many new examples ...

Expanders and Eigenvalues

We denote by G = (V,E) a d-regular graph on n = |V | nodes with no multiple edges and no self-loops. We denote by A its adjacency matrix. Thus, A is a symmetric n×n-matrix in which each element either is zero or one and each row and column contains exactly d ones and n− d zeros. We denote by d = μ1 ≥ . . . ≥ μn the eigenvalues of A, and we denote by d = λ1 ≥ . . . ≥ λn the corresponding absolut...

Hypereuclidean Manifolds and Expanders

We show that the Cayley graph of the fundamental group of a closed aspherical manifold with the hypereuclidean universal cover cannot contain an expander. This rules out for recent Gromov’s examples of exotic groups an approach to the Novikov Conjecture via the hypereuclideanness developed by Connes, Gromov and Moscovici [G],[CGM] and in a different languages by Ferry and Weinberger [FW],[DF], ...
