Speed/Torque Ripple Reduction of High-Speed Permanent Magnet Starters/Generators With Low Inductance for More Electric Aircraft Applications

With the electrification trend of future aircraft, high-speed permanent magnet starters/generators (PMSs/Gs) will potentially be widely used in onboard generation systems due to their high power density and efficiency. However, per-unit reactance such machines is normally designed very low limited supply voltage large electrical demand, which can result current ripples machine thus torque especially when fed with a semiconductor-based inverter lower switching frequency. The may further lead speed oscillation generate severe vibrations noises that are harmful mechanical system human beings around. In this article, speed/torque ripple reduction method for PMS/Gs inductance proposed improve performance within wide range. An active damping technique applied loop increase anti-disturbance capability smoother reference loop, whereas an adaptive output saturation limit utilized peak value prevent overcurrent spikes. parameter tuning criteria derived through thorough analysis. Finally, validated on PMS/G 99 $\mu \text{H}$ . results show reduced by over 50% range 2–14 krpm.
