Spectroscopic Study of N- <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline" overflow="scroll"><mml:mi>V</mml:mi></mml:math> Sensors in Diamond-Based High-Pressure Devices

Recently, the negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center has emerged as a robust and versatile quantum sensor in pressurized environments. There are two popular ways to implement NV sensing diamond anvil cell (DAC), which is conventional workhorse high-pressure community: create implanted centers (INVs) at tip or immerse NV-enriched nano-diamonds (NDs) pressure medium. Nonetheless, there limited studies on comparing local stress environments experienced by these types well their performances gauges. In this work, probing energy levels with optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) method, we experimentally reveal dramatic difference partially reconstructed tensors of INVs NDs incorporated same DAC. Our measurement results agree computational simulations, concluding that perceive more non-hydrostatic environment dominated uniaxial along DAC axis. This provides insights suitable choice sensors for specific purposes distribution We further propose some possible methods, such using nanopillars, extend maximum working based ODMR spectroscopy, since could be restricted non-hydrostaticity environment.
