Spectroscopic insight of low energy electron emission from diamond surfaces

چکیده

Low work function materials are desirable in many applications such as electron emission and photocatalysis. We have studied low energy from hydrogen terminated diamond surfaces via spectroscopy to gain insight into the mechanisms involved during excitation emission. Electron was found be dominated by electrons within band gap region, allowed due negative affinity surface, while sub-bandgap illumination able significantly increase current. Substantial upward surface bending greater than 2 eV observed for samples, which affect accumulation at surfaces. Intra-bandgap states shown strongly influence behavior, can great implications various conversion devices.

Imaging electron emission from diamond and III–V nitride surfaces with photo-electron emission microscopy

Ž . Wide bandgap semiconductors such as diamond and the III–V nitrides GaN, AlN, and AlGaN alloys exhibit small or even negative electron affinities. Results have shown that different surface treatments will modify the electron affinity of Ž . diamond to cause a positive or negative electron affinity NEA . This study describes the characterization of these surfaces Ž . with photo-electron emiss...

Secondary-electron emission from hydrogen- terminated diamond

Diamond amplifiers demonstrably are an electron source with the potential to support high-brightness, highaverage-current emission into a vacuum. We recently developed a reliable hydrogenation procedure for the diamond amplifier. The systematic study of hydrogenation resulted in the reproducible fabrication of high gain diamond amplifier. Furthermore, we measured the emission probability of dia...

High-temperature electron emission from diamond films

This work examines electron field-emission characteristics of polycrystalline diamond films at elevated temperatures. Diamond is an excellent material as a field emitter because of its exceptional mechanical hardness and chemical inertness. The motivation behind this study involves the use of field emitters in applications where high temperatures exist. Nitrogen-doped polycrystalline diamond fi...

Vibrationally promoted electron emission from low work-function metal surfaces.

We observe electron emission when vibrationally excited NO molecules with vibrational state v, in the range of 9 < or = v < or =18, are scattered from a Cs-dosed Au surface. The quantum efficiency increases strongly with v, increasing up to 10(-2) electrons per NO (v) collision, a value several orders of magnitude larger than that observed in experiments with similar molecules in the ground vib...
