Spectral moment estimation for weather radars using a whitening transformation on oversampled data
A method for estimation of Doppler spectral moments on pulsed weather radars is presented. This scheme operates on oversampled echoes in range; that is samples of in-phase and quadrature phase components are taken at a rate several times larger than the reciprocal of the transmitted pulse length. The aforementioned radar variables are estimated by suitably combining weighted averages of these o...
متن کاملSpectral moment matching in the maximum entropy spectral analysis method
The formula for the spectral moments is expanded in a series consisting of autocorrelation terms. By using the autocorrelation extrapolation inherent in the maximum entropy method (MEM) for spectral analysis, it is found that good estimates of the moments can be found from a very low order autoregressive model. The motivation for this investigation came from results obtained during spectral ana...
متن کاملAdaptive Thresholding in Marine RADARs
In order to detect targets upon sea surface or near it, marine radars should be capable of distinguishing signals of target reflections from the sea clutter. Our proposed method in this paper relates to detection of dissimilar marine targets in an inhomogeneous environment with clutter and non-stationary noises, and is based on adaptive thresholding determination methods. The variance and t...
متن کاملA Method of Spectral Moment Estimation - Geoscience and Remote Sensing, IEEE Transactions on
The paper presents a new method that enables us to construct direct routines to estimate spectral moments of any orders. Accuracy analysis confirms high efficiency of the estimates. The feasibility of the method is tested for signal fading data acquired during observations of ionosphere multipath propagation.
