Spectral Evidence for Irradiated Sodium Chloride on the Surface of 1 Ceres

چکیده

Abstract Bright spots on the surface of Ceres exhibit a mineralogy resulting from aqueous processes that hint at past elements an world. Reports hydrated sodium chloride (hydrohalite) Occator crater suggested salts may result deep brines reached recently or currently, but spectral characteristics alkali halides make their identification difficult. However, anhydrous (halite) develops readily identifiable absorption features when exposed to radiation environment high energy particles. We report spectroscopic evidence, in form irradiation‐formed color centers, suggests halite is component bright Ceres. The spatial extent and inferred abundance are found be greater than previously reported for hydrohalite. These findings imply emplacement endogenic occurred via suite subsurface liquid water environments have persisted through time.

Surface Albedo and Spectral Variability of Ceres

Previous observations suggested that Ceres has active, but possibly sporadic, water outgassing as well as possibly varying spectral characteristics over a timescale of months. We used all available data of Ceres collected in the past three decades from the ground and the Hubble Space Telescope, as well as the newly acquired images by the Dawn Framing Camera, to search for spectral and albedo va...

Spectral Evidence for a Brucite-carbonate Alteration Assemblage on Ceres

Introduction: The dwarf planet Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt and is a primary target of NASA’s Dawn mission [1]. Recent modeling has shown that Ceres is likely differentiated and consists of a thin silicate+ice crust underlain by a thicker water ice mantle [2,3]. The presence of hydrated phases on Ceres, as inferred from the 3 μm absorption feature present in surface reflecta...

Thermodynamic Study of the Ternary Electrolyte (1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride + sodium chloride + Water) System Using Potentiometric Measurements

In this paper, the thermodynamic properties of the aqueous mixed electrolyte system containing 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([BMIm]Cl) and NaCl are reported based on the potentiometric method. The potentiometric measurements were performed on the galvanic cells without liquid junction of the type:Ag-AgCl [BMIm]Cl (m1), NaCl(m2), H2O│IL-...
