Selective Interaction of Heparin with the Variable Region 3 within Surface Glycoprotein of Laboratory-Adapted Feline Immunodeficiency Virus
Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPG) can act as binding receptors for certain laboratory-adapted (TCA) strains of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Heparin, a soluble heparin sulfate (HS), can inhibit TCA HIV and FIV entry mediated by HSPG interaction in vitro. In the present study, we further determined the selective interaction of heparin with the V3 ...
متن کاملDC-SIGN interactions with human immunodeficiency virus: virus binding and transfer are dissociable functions.
The C-type lectins DC-SIGN and DC-SIGNR capture and transfer human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) to susceptible cells, although the underlying mechanism is unclear. Here we show that DC-SIGN/DC-SIGNR-mediated HIV transmission involves dissociable binding and transfer steps, indicating that efficient virus transmission is not simply due to tethering of virus to the cell surface.

Ophthalmic manifestations of FeLV or FIV infection can occur in all ocular tissues and may be manifestations of direct viral effects or secondary to viral-related malignant transformation. Additionally, the manifestations of common feline ophthalmic pathogens may be more severe and poorly responsive to therapy because of the immunosuppressive effects of FeLV or FIV infection. Prompt diagnosis o...

RISK OF INFECTION/EXPOSURE The risk of infection is higher in younger animals and cats that are in contact with multiple cats (strays). Generally, Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is spread by casual contact between cats although as they age, resistance to infection develops. Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is spread more commonly through bite wounds or through sexual behaviour. Exposure occurs...
متن کاملHigh-Affinity Glycopolymer Binding to Human DC-SIGN and Disruption of DC-SIGN Interactions with HIV Envelope Glycoprotein
Noncovalent interactions between complex carbohydrates and proteins drive many fundamental processes within biological systems, including human immunity. In this report we aimed to investigate the potential of mannose-containing glycopolymers to interact with human DC-SIGN and the ability of these glycopolymers to inhibit the interactions between DC-SIGN and the HIV envelope glycoprotein gp120....
