Spatial attention and spatial short term memory in PSP and Parkinson's disease

چکیده
Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterised by deterioration in motor, oculomotor and cognitive function. A key clinical feature of PSP the progressive paralysis eye movements, most notably for vertical saccades. These signs can be subtle, however, often misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s disease (PD), its early stages. Although some features PD overlap, they are distinct disorders with differing underlying pathological processes, responses to treatment prognoses. One difference lies effects diseases have on cognition. The system tightly linked processes such spatial attention short-term memory (sSTM), previous studies suggested that experience different deficits these domains. We therefore hypothesised people (N = 15) would problems (assessed conjunction visual search tasks) sSTM Corsi blocks task) compared 16) Age Matched Controls 15). As predicted, were sgnificantly slower group other groups, this deficit was significantly worse search. did not differ from AMC but impaired also had pronounced impairment present or groups. It argued associated specific visuospatial cognition which caused degeneration structures support exogenous attention, consistent theories memory.

Background and Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus, leading to impairments in learning and memory. L-carnosine, an endogenous dipeptide, is reported to exhibit anti-diabetic and antioxidant effects. Therefore, this study was designed to evaluate its effect on learning and memory in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In the present study, male Wis...
متن کاملSpatial Attention can Bias Search in Visual Short-Term Memory
Whereas top-down attentional control is known to bias perceptual functions at many levels of stimulus analysis, its possible influence over memory-related functions remains uncharted. Our experiment combined behavioral measures and event-related potentials (ERPs) to test the ability of spatial orienting to bias functions associated with visual short-term memory (VSTM), and to shed light on the ...
متن کاملImpact of Spatial and Verbal Short-Term Memory Load on Auditory Spatial Attention Gradients
Short-term memory load can impair attentional control, but prior work shows that the extent of the effect ranges from being very general to very specific. One factor for the mixed results may be reliance on point estimates of memory load effects on attention. Here we used auditory attention gradients as an analog measure to map-out the impact of short-term memory load over space. Verbal or spat...
