SPAD-Based Optical Wireless Communication With Signal Pre-Distortion and Noise Normalization

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in exploring the application of single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) optical wireless communication (OWC). As photon counting detector, SPAD can provide much higher sensitivity compared to other commonly used photodetectors. However, SPAD-based receivers suffer from significant dead-time-induced non-linear distortion and signal dependent noise. this work, we propose novel OWC system which caused by dead time be successfully eliminated pre-distortion at transmitter. addition, another with joint noise normalization functionality is proposed. Thanks additional process, for transformed receiver, originally becomes independent so that conventional detection techniques designed AWGN channels employed decode signal. Our numerical results demonstrate superiority proposed systems existing terms BER performance achievable data rate.
