City Confidential: On the Lyric Mapping of Urban Space
Flesh, color, speech: these exist by the rivalry amongst little phrases the struggle to conceive sounds that palpitate and style the possible: distant horizons that complicate a ghetto in the grove, in the shadow of a city that goes on writing.-Leonard Schwartz, " As You Run Up the Stairs " While teaching creative writing, I began to note a pervasive narrative in several of my students' work; t...
متن کاملEuclidean Space of City Space Syntax
We demonstrate that random walks embed connected undirected graphs into Euclidean space, in which distances and angles acquire the clear statistical interpretation. Being defined on the spatial network of Venetian canals, random walks afford a portrait of the city space syntax and measure its intelligibility. In the present Letter, we investigate the spatial network of 96 canals in Venice (that...
متن کاملIterative Process for an α- Nonexpansive Mapping and a Mapping Satisfying Condition(C) in a Convex Metric Space
We construct one-step iterative process for an α- nonexpansive mapping and a mapping satisfying condition (C) in the framework of a convex metric space. We study △-convergence and strong convergence of the iterative process to the common fixed point of the mappings. Our results are new and are valid in hyperbolic spaces, CAT(0) spaces, Banach spaces and Hilbert spaces, simultaneously.
متن کاملCognition, Sociability, and Constraints
This paper focuses on the challenge of building technical agents that act flexibly in modern computing and information environments. Flexibility is approached in terms of both cognition (ranging from reactive to pro-active) and sociability (ranging from isolated to interactive). It is argued that existing agent architectures tend to inherently limit an agent’s flexibility because they imply a d...
متن کاملSocialization and sociability
This study does not seek to explain what is meant by the terms socialization and sociability, but, rather, by bringing leverage to bear on Durkheim’s and Simmel’s general assumptions (the former normative-structural, the latter cultural-relational) that of investigating the extent to which, the way in which, and if, these two categories are still capable of performing their strategic function o...
