چکیده
This study investigates the practice of “sounding for others,” wherein one person vocalizes to enact someone else’s putatively ongoing bodily sensation. We argue that it constitutes a collaborative way performing sensorial experiences. Examples include producing cries with others’ strain or pain and parents sounding an mmm gustatory pleasure on their infant’s behalf. Vocal sounds, loudness, duration are specifically deployed instructing experiences during novices’ real-time performance various activities, such as tasting food first time straining Pilates exercise. Vocalizations indexically tied body provide immediate displays understanding empathy may be explicated further through lexicon. The existence this challenges conceptualization communication transfer information from individual agent – even regarding assumedly sensations instead providing evidence joint nature action supporting dialogic theories communication, including when language-marginal vocalizations used.

Cartesian Sensations
Descartes maintained that sensations of color and the like misrepresent the material world in normal circumstances. Some prominent scholars have argued that, to explain this Cartesian view, we must attribute to Descartes a causal account of sensory representation. I contend that neither the arguments motivating this reading nor the textual evidence offered in its support is sufficient to justif...

Networked communications accord the voice renewed spatial significance. How does the mobile phone influence the use and design of spaces? The conventions for modulating the voice in face-to-face exchanges are well established. But in the case of mobile communications the voice may be raised to abnormal levels. The raised voice overcomes ambient interference, and spatial distance. The voice is a...

virtual environments, and information display applications need dynamic sound models rather than faithful audio reproductions. This implies three levels of research: auditory perception, physicsbased sound modeling, and expressive parametric control. Parallel progress along these three lines leads to effective auditory displays that can complement or substitute visual displays. W hen designing ...
متن کاملSelf, others, objects: how this triadic interaction modulates our behavior.
Two experiments investigated whether the triadic interaction between objects, ourselves and other persons modulates motor system activation during language comprehension. Participants were faced with sentences formed by a descriptive part referring to a positive or negative emotively connoted object and an action part composed of an imperative verb implying a motion toward the self or toward ot...
