Soot-Free Low-NO<i>x</i> Aeronautical Combustor Concept: The Lean Azimuthal Flame for Kerosene Sprays

چکیده
An ultralow emission combustor concept based on “flameless oxidation” is demonstrated in this paper for aviation kerosene. Measurements of gas emissions, as well the size and number nanoparticles via scanning mobility particle sizing, are carried out at outlet, revealing simultaneously soot-free single-digit NOx levels operation atmospheric conditions. Such performance, achieved with direct spray injection fuel without any external preheating or prevaporization, attributed to unique mixing configuration combustor. The consists azimuthally arranged sprays upstream boundary reverse-flow air jets injected from downstream. This creates locally sequential combustion, good hot products, a strong whirling motion that increases residence time homogenizes mixture. Under ideal conditions, clean, bright-blue kerosene flame observed, free soot luminescence. Although intermittently formed during around optimal high-speed imaging luminescence shows particles subjected long times O2-rich conditions high temperatures, which likely promotes their oxidation. As result, only 2–10 nm range measured outlet under all tested emissions completeness combustion strongly affected by splitting flow. Numerical simulations confirm trend observed experiment provide more insight into dilution.

Soot and Temperature Measurement in Diesel Sprays
Production of soot in high pressure diesel sprays is known to be dependent on combustion chamber temperature and pressure. To a lesser extent, the injector type and injection pressure also influence soot formation. In real engines, separating the individual role of these parameters is difficult as they are closely coupled. Here we present an optically based method to measure both temperature an...
متن کاملBifurcation of flame structure in a lean-premixed swirl-stabilized combustor: transition from stable to unstable flame
The present work addresses unsteady flame dynamics in a lean-premixed swirl-stabilized combustor, with attention focused on the transition of flame structure from a stable to an unstable state. It was found that the inlet temperature and equivalence ratio are the two most important variables determining the stability characteristics of the combustor. A slight increase in the inlet mixture tempe...
متن کاملModeling soot formation in turbulent kerosene/air jet diffusion flames
Soot volume fraction and number density in a turbulent diffusion flame burning kerosene/air were predicted using two approaches. The first used a conventional soot inception model based on the acetylene concentration and is referred to as the acetylene model. The second used a soot inception model based on the formation rate of three and two ring aromatics [1] and is referred to as the PAH ince...
متن کاملModeling Soot Formation in Kerosene and Fuel Surrogates Combustion
This article presents an analysis of soot formation in kerosene and fuel surrogates. This analysis is based on a detailed chemical mechanism for the combustion of single component fuels such as n-heptane, isooctane, benzene, and toluene. The chemical mechanism describes the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) up to cyclo[cd]pyrene and is shown to reproduce the formation of soot ...
متن کاملSoot and NOx Formation in a Stationary Turbulent Combustor
On the basis of the stochastic reactor model Partially Stirred Plug Flow Reactor (PaSPFR) a model is developed that accounts for soot and NOx formation in the distributed combustion regime. This is done by means of the joint composition probability density function (PDF). The composition vector consists of the species mass fraction in the gas phase, enthalpy, and four moments of the soot partic...
