SONOGRAPHIC ASSESSMENT OF INTIMA-MEDIA THICKNESS OF CAROTID ARTERIES - A REVIEW OF LITERATURE
نویسندگان
چکیده
We conducted a systematic review of the literature that has examined carotid arteries using ultrasonography in order to better explain association between diabetes, hypertension, and intima-media thickness (IMT). The goal this study was also get precise evaluation increasing predictive value for clinical cardiovascular outcomes. From 2000 through 2021, we searched Google Scholar, NCBI, PubMed, Medscape databases. following essential keywords were looked up: ultrasound arteries, common thickness, IMT diabetes hypertension. Of 135 retained studies percentage detection used calculate diseases affect intima–media thickness. As result causes alter thickness: hypertension at 81.4 % 80 respectively. Coronary artery disease 21.4%, dyslipidemia stroke 14.8% 5.2% Microalbuminuria 3%. However, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, peripheral arterial (PAD) chronic kidney (CKD) an equal effect 2.2%, MI 1.5%. Breast calcification, polycystic kidneys glomerulonephritis 0.7%. In conclusion, patients with are most risk developing coronary disease.

Causes of changes in carotid intima-media thickness: a literature review.
Atherosclerosis causes significant morbidity and mortality. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) predicts future cardiovascular and ischaemic stroke incidence. CIMT, a measure of atherosclerotic disease, can be reliably determined in vivo by carotid ultrasound. In this review, we determined that CIMT is associated with traditional cardiovascular risk factors such as age, sex, race, smoking, al...
متن کاملAssessment of Serum Magnesium Level and Its relation with Atherosclerotic Carotid Intima Media Thickness in Post-Menopausal Women
Objective: A magnesium deficiency is known to be involved in many abnormalities in the post-menopausal women. Previous studies proposed that magnesium (Mg) might prevent atherosclerosis. In this study the efficacy of serum magnesium level and its relation with carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) in post-menopausal women was evaluated. Methods: Eighty Iranian Postmenopausal women were included...
متن کاملClinical use of carotid intima-media thickness: review of the literature.
Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is a simple and inexpensive tool to assess the cumulative effect of atherosclerotic risk factors and is an independent predictor of future cardiovascular risk. CIMT is commonly used as a surrogate end point in research trials as a marker of atherosclerosis. However, new software programs have made CIMT a clinically practical examination for risk evaluation....

متن کاملComparison of carotid arterial resistive indices with intima-media thickness as sonographic markers of atherosclerosis.
UNLABELLED Background and Purpose-The intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery is a (morphological) sonographic parameter that depends on the degree of atherosclerosis. In the renal arteries, the value of the (hemodynamic) resistive index (RI) is correlated with the severity of atherosclerosis. In contrast to the well-known IMT, no study has yet applied the carotid RI to estimate gene...
