Some remarks on diophantine equations and diophantine approximation
We give many equivalent statements of Mahler’s generalization of the fundamental theorem of Thue. In particular, we show that the theorem of Thue–Mahler for degree 3 implies the theorem of Thue for arbitrary degree ≥ 3, and we relate it with a theorem of Siegel on the rational integral points on the projective line P(K) minus 3 points. متن کاملSome Theorems and Conjectures in Diophantine Equations
The theory of diophantine equations may be regarded as the natural continuation of algebraic geometry proper: Having once obtained a general theory of algebraic equations in several variables over essentially arbitrary ground fields (or rings), one tries to get statements depending on the special arithmetic structure of the coefficient domain. By definition, this becomes diophantine analysis. W...
متن کاملApproximation theorems on some classes of automata
This paper considers a machine as a pair (G5M) where G is a group or a semi group and where M is a state space. The first part of the paper called reversible-state machines considers the case where G is a locally compact group and M is any locally compact group and M is any locally compact space. The essential requirement is that (x,p)~>x(p) be continuous where XGG, peM and x(p)eM; i.e., we req...
متن کاملReport on some recent advances in Diophantine approximation
A basic question of Diophantine approximation, which is the first issue we discuss, is to investigate the rational approximations to a single real number. Next, we consider the algebraic or polynomial approximations to a single complex number, as well as the simultaneous approximation of powers of a real number by rational numbers with the same denominator. Finally we study generalisations of t...
متن کاملMetrical Theorems for Inhomogeneous Diophantine Approximation in Positive Characteristic
We consider inhomogeneous Diophantine approximation for formal Laurent series over a finite base field. We establish an analogue of a strong law of large numbers due to W. M. Schmidt with a better error term than in the real case. A special case of our result improves upon a recent result by H. Nakada and R. Natsui and completes a result of M. M. Dodson, S. Kristensen, and J. Levesley. Moreover...
