A high demand for woodchips has encouraged smallholder farmers in Vietnam to invest short-rotation Acacia plantations produce pulpwood that a relatively quick, though often low, income return. Because of an expanding export furniture industry, the Government sought increase sawlog production and, at same time, improve returns farmers. However, currently quality and therefore market value timber from acacias under differing management strategies not been well quantified. auriculiformis, both its pure form hybrid with A. mangium (Acacia hybrid) are grown merchantable timber, inferior mechanical properties juvenile wood early age impeded access higher-value product markets. thinning, there may be improvements could enhance values. This study examined how plantation change stand age, explored differences between auriculiformis following different thinning treatments, determined which two species is most favourable solid products. The potential supply logs sliced veneer industry was also investigated. Logs trees aged eight years processed manufacture structural products, five manufacturing utility furniture. thinned 833 stems per hectare 4 had indicating durable flooring products can command market. dead knots, samples were acceptable face veneer, visual assessments indicated pruning, attractive high-value potentially produced.
