چکیده
Abstract A balance between soil water and air is needed to optimize microbial activity in laboratory incubations. Some fraction of holding capacity (WHC) often used during controlled incubations, yet this level may differ among soils. This study was undertaken develop relationships gravimetric volumetric content, WHC, water‐filled pore space (WFPS) a variety soils, representing eight orders, 46 subgroups, total N from 0.46 4.68 g kg –1 , clay concentration .072 .491 (5–95% range). Gravimetric content determined for each sample under the following sequence conditions: (a) dry storage, (b) when dried at 55 °C, (c) near saturation, (d) drained WHC. calculated 50% WFPS (.50 m 3 –3 ). Like that WFPS, WHC varied strongly with concentrations. To achieve 69 ± 10% 58 3% saturation. Although drying only °C routine processing led overestimation bulk density by 0.012 0.006 Mg it bias. Soil calculations are important obtaining best estimates soil‐test biological other C fractions assess health, research demonstrated using temperature practical but created small consistent

Texture, Climate, and Cultivation Effects on Soil Organic Matter Content in U.S. Grassland Soils
Soil organic C content, a major source of system stability in agroecosystems, is controlled by many factors that have complex interactions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the major controls over soil organic carbon content, and to predict regional patterns of carbon in range and cultivated soils. We obtained pedon and climate data for 500 rangeland and 300 cultivated soils in the U.S...
متن کاملEffects of Straw Incorporation on Soil Organic Matter and Soil Water-Stable Aggregates Content in Semiarid Regions of Northwest China
The soil degradation caused by conventional tillage in rain-fed areas of northwest China is known to reduce the water-use efficiency and crop yield because of reduced soil porosity and the decreased availability of soil water and nutrients. Thus, we investigated the effects of straw incorporation on soil aggregates with different straw incorporation rates in semiarid areas of southern Ningxia f...

Selective grazing of burned patches can be intense if animal distribution is not controlled and may compound the independent effects of fire and grazing on soil characteristics. Our objectives were to quantify the effects of patch burning and grazing on wind erosion, soil water content, and soil temperature in sand sagebrush (Artemisia filifolia Torr.) mixed prairie. We selected 24, 4-ha plots ...
