Soil Organic Carbon and Nutrients Affected by Tree Species and Poultry Litter in a 17-Year Agroforestry Site

چکیده

Tree species and fertilization sources may affect the soil organic carbon (SOC) fertility in agroforestry (AF) systems temperate regions, but this remains unexplored. This study assesses longitudinal trends SOC major nutrients a 17-year AF site established on an Ultisol Fayetteville, AR. We evaluated how management (mineral vs. organic) soil’s physical chemical properties using tree species: red oak (Quercus rubra L.) pecan Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch. Long-term applications of poultry litter increased pH, whereas Mg S concentrations decreased compared to baseline levels (1999). Poultry P concentration 53% reduced C:N ratio. After 17 years, Ca, SOC, N were observed soils under stands that received litter. Positive correlations occurred between (r = 0.96) as well Ca 0.71) 0.61) at depth 0–15 cm. Our findings demonstrated changes vary according fertilization, mostly due distinctive leaf nutrient inputs. Organic matter accumulation retention availability systems.

Soil carbon dioxide efflux from a claypan soil affected by surface compaction and applications of poultry litter

The effects of soil compaction on soil physical properties may alter soil microbial activities and processes, including carbon (C) cycling, and possibly affect agricultural production and environmental degradation. This study investigated the effects of surface soil compaction on soil C mineralization in a claypan soil amended with poultry litter (i.e. turkey excrement mixed with pine shavings ...

The impact of alum addition on organic P transformations in poultry litter and litter-amended soil.

Poultry litter treatment with alum (Al(2)(SO(4))(3) . 18H(2)O) lowers litter phosphorus (P) solubility and therefore can lower litter P release to runoff after land application. Lower P solubility in litter is generally attributed to aluminum-phosphate complex formation. However, recent studies suggest that alum additions to poultry litter may influence organic P mineralization. Therefore, alum...

Urban Tree Effects on Soil Organic Carbon

Urban trees sequester carbon into biomass and provide many ecosystem service benefits aboveground leading to worldwide tree planting schemes. Since soils hold ∼75% of ecosystem organic carbon, understanding the effect of urban trees on soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil properties that underpin belowground ecosystem services is vital. We use an observational study to investigate effects of thre...

Soil nutrients influence spatial distributions of tropical tree species.

The importance of niche vs. neutral assembly mechanisms in structuring tropical tree communities remains an important unsettled question in community ecology [Bell G (2005) Ecology 86:1757-1770]. There is ample evidence that species distributions are determined by soils and habitat factors at landscape (<10(4) km(2)) and regional scales. At local scales (<1 km(2)), however, habitat factors and ...

Reciprocal Effects of Litter from Exotic and Congeneric Native Plant Species via Soil Nutrients

Invasive exotic plant species are often expected to benefit exclusively from legacy effects of their litter inputs on soil processes and nutrient availability. However, there are relatively few experimental tests determining how litter of exotic plants affects their own growth conditions compared to congeneric native plant species. Here, we test how the legacy of litter from three exotic plant ...
