Soil Microbial Response to Cover Crop Termination Methods under Two Water Levels

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cover crops (CC) promote soil health, but the termination method can condition benefits for microorganisms. In a greenhouse experiment, we evaluated legacy effects of four common CC methods on mycorrhization, microbial abundance, structure, and activity, as well other properties, its interaction with water levels (well-watered deficit). Mowing residue incorporation (INC), glyphosate (GLY), roller crimper (ROL) + (RGL) were evaluated, together no CC, at two sampling dates subsequent maize. The level modulated response to methods, especially in methods. Legacy attributes notable evolved differently from maize, pre-emergence ~3 months later. At final sampling, INC showed best both levels, enhancing most attributes. ROL was second beneficial method, well-watered soil, promoting fungi nullifying positive effect bacteria. Regardless level, GLY RGL similar response. had negative total fungi, which separated ROL. Overall, time since Further research is needed investigate impacts under different environmental conditions, order better understand processes involved provide farm-level recommendations.

Maize response to water, salinity and nitrogen levels: soil and plant ions accumulation

In the present study, some nutritional imbalances, specific ion toxicity and yield-ion concentration relationships in maize under water, nitrogen (N) and salinity stresses were assessed. Effect of different levels of irrigation water (I1=1.0ETc+0.25ETc as leaching, I2 =0.75I1 and I3 =0.5I1) as main plot, salinity of irrigation water (S1=0.6, S2= 2.0 and S3=4.0 dS m-1) as sub-plot and N fertiliz...

Patterns of crop cover under future climates

We study changes in crop cover under future climate and socio-economic projections. This study is not only organised around the global and regional adaptation or vulnerability to climate change but also includes the influence of projected changes in socio-economic, technological and biophysical drivers, especially regional gross domestic product. The climatic data are obtained from simulations ...

Topography Mediates the Influence of Cover Crops on Soil Nitrate Levels in Row Crop Agricultural Systems.

Supplying adequate amounts of soil N for plant growth during the growing season and across large agricultural fields is a challenge for conservational agricultural systems with cover crops. Knowledge about cover crop effects on N comes mostly from small, flat research plots and performance of cover crops across topographically diverse agricultural land is poorly understood. Our objective was to...

Effects of crop residue cover and architecture on heat and water transfer at the soil surface

Different residue types and standing stubble versus distributed flat residues affect heat and water transfer at the soil surface to varying degrees. Understanding the effects of various residue configurations can assist in better residue management decisions, but this is complex due to various interacting influences. Therefore, modeling the effects of crop residues on heat and water movement ca...

Soil and Water Management & Crop Nutrition

For the first few days after heavy rain or irrigations, water drains from the soil profile until its water content approaches a relatively stable value called the drained upper limit or field capacity. When plants have extracted all of the water available to them, the root zone water content approaches a lower limit of available water, or permanent wilting water content. The water held by the s...
